Dear Mr. Olen:
Re Residence, 26 Sewall Street, West Newton, MA 02165
I am writing this letter to confirm my telephone conversations with you
both in the past and most recently on June 10. As I mentioned previously,
my wife and I have been extremely satisfied with the work you performed in
the removal and replacement of the roof shingles and replacement of gutters
and downspouts on our home.
We were especially pleased with the promptness of your work; the quality
of the products used, as well as the workmanship; and the care given in protecting
our plants, house and lawn during the period you removed the existing shingles.
The fact that you not only protected the above areas but also cleaned up
totally after each day’s work more than confirmed the statements made by
your references.
I believe I mentioned at one time that I was trained and practiced as an
architect in the State of Massachusetts. I have worked with numerous contractors
and subcontractors in this state and throughout the United States. You and
your crew worked the highest level of efficiency as well as workmanship I
have seen in the construction trade in the last five or ten years.
Again, I would like to thank and congratulate you on a job well done. Please
do not hesitate to use me as a reference for any future plans.
Yours very truly,

Dear John:
I am writing to thank you and O’Lyn Roofing for the superior job you have
done on my roof. The outstanding service began with your responsiveness to
my call for a proposal. I called several other contractors and you were the
only one that responded in what I consider to be a professionally acceptable
interval or even answered my call professionally. You listened to my concerns
about protecting very fragile garden areas and the general landscaping. You
also continued monitoring the process and my satisfaction. I appreciate all
of these things. The owner also came by daily to inspect the crew’s work
and provide any necessary guidance. I believe, as does the owner, that one
of his most important jobs is to be the ultimate quality control check for
his company’s work.
Your crew stripped and replaced a fairly complicated and somewhat difficult
to access roof in only 2 1/2 days. And when they started, the roof was covered
with snow. Since re-roofing is by nature highly disruptive, this short working
time significantly reduces the overall pain.
In a previous home with a roof half the size and absolutely simple in structure, another
contractor took almost two weeks, used staples (which I consider
unacceptable), started to shingle without the required felt underlayment,
and had to come back to correct many improperly set staples. These types
of contractors seem to be plentiful.
The crew did everything possible to minimize damage to my gardens and landscaping.
They also made a concerted effort to minimize the debris from an inherently
very messy process. They went so far as to build a plywood chute and fences
to keep people and debris off of the garden areas.
One section of the roof has leaked for as long as I have owned the house.
I explained this problem to you, and the crew chief spent a good deal of
time in insuring that this problem was resolved. While the roof was exposed
it became clear that the original design and covering of the roof had made
it impossible to avoid a leak at this point. The crew chief removed portions
of the siding (and replaced it with new shakes) in order to place flashing
and waterproofing materials that should have been included in the original
construction. I have every confidence that this will eliminate a problem
that apparently has existed since the house was built.
All shingling was done with roofing nails; your standard methodology. Ice
and water shield was placed at all of the edges and valleys to prevent leakage
from ice dams. Drip edges were added (absent from the original construction).
Valleys were done with woven shingles. I consider this to be a superior method
from both the appearance and protection standpoint. Wiring was removed and
reinstalled (lightening rod system) and all areas around the chimney and
potential leak areas were re-flashed.
Thank you all for a very professional job of replacing my roof.
Sincerely,
Harold L. Harrington

O'Lyn Roofing

Unit 4
Norwood, MA 02062
Dear Michael & Crew,
Yesterday you completed a job, removing an old and installing a new roof
on our house, just in time for the rains last evening. We are writing to
thank you all for the professional way you handled the job — from estimate
through cleanup.
When calling for estimates I considered your organization among the elite
and, consequently, expected it to be the most expensive. You provided more
expert advice than the low estimate group, as I expected, and another group
reinforced your advice but offered an estimate that was considerably higher.
Once we signed with O’Lyn, you made us a high priority on your schedule because
we were experiencing multiple leaks. Then, in the process of doing top-notch
work, you and the crew went above and beyond the call of duty to fix some
problems with our gutters and chimney. Finally, your cleanup was as thorough
as any of the multiple work crews we have had at the house in our six years
there.
Again we thank you for all your hard work on our behalf.

So long, soggy gingerbread
Those “wedding cake” touches that make Victorian houses so charming can
turn into a curse at the first sign of a serious leak. It’s one thing to
patch up an ordinary ranch roof, quite another to dismantle an intricate
system of turrets and decorative trim. That’s why O’Lyn Roofing Contractors of
Norwood has made a specialty of the latter, keeping as many as four crews
on call and maintaining the latest equipment, so they can recover any roof,
no matter how complicated, in a matter of days. A good chunk of time is initially
devoted to rigging tarpaulins to prevent additional water damage while the
job is under way. They also take care to clean up at the end of each workday.
The company can work in contemporary as well as historic media (rubber and
asphalt in addition to wood, copper and slate), and can throw in a skylight
or two if you want to take the opportunity to modernize a bit. For a free
estimate, contact the company at 916 Pleasant Street, Unit 4, Norwood, MA,

Dear Mike,
We would like to commend you and your crew on the exceptional craftsmanship
displayed on our gutters, soffits, pillars, and chimney.
You and your crew worked efficiently and quickly without compromising esthetics
and quality. Esthetically, with the detail of the wood work and with your
recommendations, the house has improved tremendously since we first purchased
it. The quality of your work was proven after the recent hurricane in which
the interior of the house remained water-free, including the cellar.
Hiring a contractor for major work/renovation on a house is an extremely
stressful situation (especially for the first time and with limited funds).
This stress was quickly alleviated through the help and professionalism displayed
before, during and after the whole work/renovation process.
Please feel free to use us as a reference for anyone who may be considering
having this type of work done on their home.
Sincerely,
Robert and Donna Lombardi

Dear Mike,
We received a telephone call recently from one of your prospective
clients during which they asked if we were still satisfied
with the first job you did for us. You had shown them a testimonial
letter written 10 years ago (May-1985)!! After the call we
decided it was time we wrote another letter.
We were happy to tell them we were satisfied indeed. As a matter
of fact, we pointed out that a piece of black aluminum coil fascia
at the top of the mansard roof on the West side had blown off
last January. We called your office, reported it, and within
a week, you replaced it! No discussion, no argument. We came
home one day and it was replaced. No bill either.
We have had work done by your company since 1985 and we are
just as pleased with it as we are with the first job you did.
It’s very comforting to see your crews working around Newton
and surrounding communities. It means you’ll still be available
when other jobs need doing or old jobs need fixing; although
the latter is quite rare in our experience. So many “home improvement”
companies are no longer around five years later; let alone 10
or more!
Mike, don’t hesitate to refer future clients to us. We’ll be
glad to tell about our experiences with O’Lyn.
Keep up the good work!!
Sincerely yours,
Tony & Gloria Sabelli

Dear Mr. Olen:
As you are well aware, I interviewed many roofers before I chose
your company to do what I consider a complex restoration of the
exterior top floor of my 1863 brick townhouse. I made it clear
that I was somewhat of a fanatic because of my involvement in
historic preservation particularly as a trustee of Historic Neighborhoods
Foundation in Boston. Even more critical was my total commitment
to the character and integrity of the fine home I occupy. Most
of the other companies I spoke with were either scared off by
my demands or by the far-reaching skills that were necessary
to do the total job. In contrast, O’Lyn Roofing Contractors took
the job as a challenge and convinced me that their experience,
resources and skills would complete the project successfully.
Now that the job is complete, it is difficult for me to imagine
the disrepair that preceded it. Four sagging, crumbling dormers
are now totally rebuilt with original architectural detail intact.
Loose, missing and tar-stained slate on the front and rear mansards
have been replaced with new slate of the same color and handsomely
cut to the original design by your accomplished workers. The
main flat roof sports a new pitch and gravel replacement that
I regard as every bit as good in quality as the previous one
that gave at least 50 years of service. O’Lyn also gave expert
renovation services with the copper flashing, gutters, and downspouts.
I am especially pleased with the gutters on the front of the
house because the original ogee design that acted as an architectural
element of the facade was faithfully replicated.
Finally, I extend my compliments to you and your staff on the
general respect for my property during the job. Debris was cleared
immediately and my garden and sidewalk were left broom-clean
at the end of each work day. Not one of my many neighbors voiced
a complaint about the performance of your crew. I have in fact
received many favorable remarks.
Although the dollar investment was significant, I feel that
I got the product I envisioned. My property has been improved
for another couple of generations or more to come, and the value
and enjoyment of my home has been enhanced immeasurably. We both
share an accomplishment of which we can both be proud.
Yours truly,
Thomas J. Weikle
P. S. We’ve had some nasty storms this late autumn
and early winter and I am pleased to say that the interior of
my home has remained warm and dry.

Dear Mike:
I'm writing to express my sincere appreciation to you and
your crew for a job well done on the roofing and portico restoration
you recently accomplished on my home.
Since I work in an office located in my home I had the opportunity
to watch the entire process from beginning to end and noted with
admiration the superb craftsmanship and teamwork displayed by
your crew. Not one facet of the job was overlooked, and not
one aspect was done with less than the highest level of professional
excellence.
I was simply amazed at the finished look of the portico after
you had completely torn it apart and rebuilt it. It was originally
built nearly 70 years ago, had deteriorated to the point of near
disintegration, yet today looks better, I would guess, than the
day it was first put up.
When a homeowner spends many thousands of dollars on a job
of considerable importance, it is comforting to know that it
is done right. I am fully confident that my new roof and portico
will last longer than I will.
Thanks again, and please convey my thanks to your crew as
well.
Very truly yours,
Paul Wesel

Dear Sirs:
Enclosed please find our check for $250.00, the balance due for
your work on our roof. We would like to express our appreciation
of a job well done.
The job was started just a few days after we accepted the proposal,
and was completed quickly and efficiently on two consecutive
days. The workers were courteous and considerate of our property.
The building and bushes were covered with canvas drop cloths
to protect them from the dirt and debris produced when the old
roof was stripped. They even removed an elbow from a downspout
to protect it from falling debris, and reattached it at the completion
of the job. The area was cleaned up thoroughly, the workers also
washed some aluminum siding which had gotten slightly soiled.
The new shingles were installed very evenly, and the roof looks
beautiful. Last week’s heavy rain proved that the job was done
right the first time.
Needless to say, we are very pleased with the work your firm
has done for us. Please feel free to use us as references.
Very truly yours,
Marvin R. Mandelbaum
