Michael has been in roofing and construction since 1972. He was formally trained as a cabinet maker and a finish carpenter at Blue Hills Regional Technical School. He is certified as a CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster, Master Shingle Applicator, GAF Master Elite Roofing Contractor, and Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor.
Michael created O’LYN Roofing in 1974, and from the very beginning, his reputation for quality work was and remains the company’s most valuable asset. O’LYN Roofing quickly earned the nickname “The Victorian Specialist” because of his attention to detail, old-world carpentry skills, and knowledge of and expertise with traditional and historic roofing materials and techniques. His most famous quote is, “I love a challenge. The more challenging a project is, the more I enjoy my work.”.
Michael particularly enjoys selling, working with managers, and attending conferences to improve the company and the roofing industry.
When he’s not hard at work, Michael loves to spend time with his family, especially his grandkids. He also loves boating, lobstering and traveling, especially when he can do it with family and friends.

After a stellar experience with the replacement of the main roof several years ago, I knew
who to call when a problem developed with a leaking roof deck (not part of the years ago
main roof replacement). The problem was diagnosed by company owner, Michael, in less
than 10 minutes and a solution proposed. They worked quickly to get me on the schedule
(to minimize garage ceiling water damage) and, once started, the (complex) project was
completed in 3 days. John, master carpenter, was here to ensure that two sets of sliding
French doors (which had to be completely removed for proper flashing installation) were
reinstalled without incident. The rest of the crew was pleasant, efficient, and obviously
skilled. I hope not to have need for roofing services in the near future but O’Lyn will be who
I call if necessary

The field supervisor arrived at my property to introduce himself and gave me his business
card at 6:45 am. The crew of ten arrived at 7am followed by delivery of a dumpster. The
crew worked until after 6pm and covered exposed areas of the roof because rain was
anticipated.The following day a crew of eight arrived at 7am and labored until 7:15 pm. All
materials removed. Lawn swept twice for roofing nails. The field supervisor was present
periodically throughout both days to answer any questions and keep me informed of
progress in roof application to home and garage.

I contacted O’Lyn roofing to repair a section of my roof because of an ongoing and elusive
leak in my son’s room, which is, given cautious optimism, hopefully fixed!
The reason for my rating is not based on the effectiveness of the repair, which only time
will tell, but on the service and communication of the company.
I had already contracted another company, which shall remain nameless, for now, and
they came out and “fixed” the problem a month before to absolutely no effect!
Their communication and lack of transparency was appalling and I am tired of companies
that never return calls!
In sharp contrast, O’Lyn were always very prompt to reply, and seemed always honest with
the process, given that they are quite pricy relatively.
They came exactly when they said they would, and worked extremely efficiently with
minimal disruption and great cleanup afterwards.
I sincerely hope that the repair has fixed the problem,( time will tell), but I’m giving a high
rating based on my dealings with the company.

“I had a very positive experience with the company. They really bailed me out of a problem back in December by responding quickly and doing a great repair job. I have a difficult Spanish tile roof. The owner, Michael was the only one who gave me a job quote. He personally came by multiple times to check on the work his crew was doing. Everyone I dealt with from O’Lyn was extremely professional. “O’Lyn’s did a wonderful job replacing the roof on my garage. The service was timely, and the staff was professional in every way. I especially appreciated the hard work of the two men who did the labor. I have one small complaint that doesn’t affect the star rating: there should have been better coordination between the sales executive who came out and took the order and said any of the roofing options online were available, and the project manager who arrived the day of the work to tell me very few options were actually available. Supply chain issues have affected the roofing industry just as they have all industries. So instead of getting the dark brown roof I wanted, I ended up with slate grey. It’s not a major issue but it’s a disappointment that didn’t need to happen. It would be nice if the sales executive had samples of all the available options in his (or her) van, so the client does not need to choose based on online samples, which never fully match the real-life roofing material. The owner is incredibly invested in running a top-quality company. He called to understand better what happened on my project. If all business owners were as concerned about running a tight ship as Mr. Olen, America would be consumer heaven! You will be in good hands at O’Lyn Roofing.”
