The Roofing Community Across the Country Comes Together to Help Roofers Injured In Boston Marathon Bombing

Roofers and roofing customers from Chesapeake, VA to Tacoma, WA have showed incredible support for three roofers who were badly injured in the Boston Marathon through a dedicated page on O’LYN Roofing’s website.

Shortly after the Boston Marathon bombing, a page was set up on the O’LYN Roofing website dedicated to spreading the word about Paul and J.P. Norden and Marc Fucarile, fellow roofers who had been badly injured in the tragedy. As soon as it went up, there was a huge outpouring from people in the community and the industry looking to help them.

The National Roofing Contractors Association in Rosemont, IL coordinated information to help connect roofers wishing to help. The North/East Roofing Contractors Association in Braintree, MA set up the Roofing Industry Marathon Victims Fund to collect funds to aid Paul, J.P. and Marc in their recovery and rehabilitation. And all the way from the West Coast, Aaron of Guardian Roofing in Tacoma, WA is working to raise $5,000 for J.P., Paul and Marc on through a donation drive set up on their website. For the entire month of May, Guardian Roofing will donate $100 for each roof purchased and $25 for each repair or cleaning job purchased.

So far the Roofing Industry Marathon Victims Fund has collected over $80,000 and counting. Bob Marshall was at a recent Boston Bruins game with his 14-year-old son Nick, and brought him over to meet JP and Paul. When they left, Nick said to Bob, “Dad, they are such nice guys; I can’t believe how strong they are after what happened”.

Bob Marshall of Marshall Roofing in Peabody, MA has been instrumental in getting much of this information out to the roofing community as well as coordinating efforts and resources. Much of what went onto the O’LYN Roofing webpage was from Bob, and after viewing this page, Ken Hawkins of Chesapeake, VA in a dramatic and unexpected example of generosity and goodwill, pledged in his letter to O’LYN to cover all travel and lodging costs for J.P., Paul and Marc to come down and reroof his house once they are fully recovered. Marc, who sustained the worst injuries of the three, has already expressed the hope to someday get back to work with a roofing company. It seems the roofing community and its customers are determined to help make this happen.

All of this has proved to be an overwhelming show of community support for people in need due to a terrible tragedy.
